What do I have to do?
If you are sure that your car has been stolen (check that it hasn't been towed away, which sometimes happens), you must file a report at the nearest police station. Afterwards, you will have to report it to your Insurance Agent, (Euroteide Insurance) by sending them a copy of the report. The car may never appear, but if it does, you must return to the police station to file the counterclaim and the vehicle recovery report. You will also have to send both documents to your agent so that he or she can close the case and arrange for any compensation that may have been pending, with the company.
Partial Theft Compensation
In this case, your company will only pay you for the damages caused by stealing integral parts of your car. Each of the damaged parts is valued independently and according to the amount it costs to replace or repair them at the time of the accident.
Accessories
- Within the concept of partial theft, it is possible that the part of the vehicle stolen from you is an accessory. In this regard, it is necessary to distinguish between two types:
- Standard accessories. These are original factory accessories, such as a door, steering wheel, seat, etc. These standard accessories are almost always covered by our policy and our company will indemnify them to the value of new (whatever they are worth at the time of the accident). All standard accessories are fully compensated at their new value, with the exception of tyres, which you will have to see what the conditions of your policy indicate in this respect, as there are companies that do not cover them if there is no further damage, or that apply a depreciation to them and pay you a lower amount.
- Not standard accessories. These are non-original accessories, which are installed on the vehicle at a later date. You will also have to consult the coverage of your policy, but normally it is necessary to declare them and pay a premium supplement for them so that they are covered in the event of a claim. For example, a GPS will have to be expressly declared so that if it is stolen from us, our company will pay compensation for it.
Is theft coverage worth taking out?
Like everything, it is a decision that you must make personally, but from Euroteide Insurance we recommend that you contract it. The premium part of the theft cover is usually not expensive, and it is better to be protected in case a part or the whole vehicle is stolen from us. The newer or more expensive your vehicle is, the more attractive it is to thieves, but even if it is not such a vehicle, all kinds of cars are stolen every day. No one likes to be without their car and not be compensated for it. Think about it if it happened to you now and you had to buy a new vehicle, you probably didn't even have it in mind, nor do you have the money ready... Better safe than sorry. From Euroteide Insurance we recommend that you insure your vehicle against theft. Hopefully it will never be stolen, but if it happens, at least your company will have to pay you the value of the stolen vehicle or the damage caused and you will not be left with anything.
