You've always wanted your own car, now you've finally got it and you're looking for the best insurance for it at Euroteide Insurance, but there are several administrative procedures that you will have to do with your car and that you may not be aware of. Therefore, we will try to give you some guidelines of some of the procedures that you may have to do with your car:
If your vehicle is new
You will have to register it. For this you will need the following documentation:
- Official Form (which you can download at www.dgt.es)
- Official tax: € 90 for all vehicles except for mopeds whose tax is € 25.
- Identification of the interested party: DNI, residence card or passport plus identification number of foreigners.
- Identification of the vehicle: ITV card, with pink sheet and blue sheet with the sales document, or in its absence, invoice or award certificate if it comes from an auction.
- Taxes: Proof of payment or exemption from road tax and registration tax. In the case of agricultural vehicles, transport vehicles or those acquired outside Spanish territory, you will need other documents. If any of them is your case, we recommend that you consult the website of the General Directorate of Traffic www.dgt.es
- Procedures to buy or sell a car
If you bought a second-hand vehicle
The vehicle will already be registered, but you will still have to carry out a series of procedures. The first of them is register the vehicle in your name in the Vehicle Registry of the General Directorate of Traffic. If you have bought the car from a private person, you should keep the following documentation:
- A copy of the sales contract,
- A photocopy of the seller's ID,
- Request for change of ownership of the vehicle signed by the buyer and seller, and
- Vehicle documentation: ITV card, driving license, receipt of municipal tax paid etc.
You must complete the following procedures:
- Procedures to buy or sell a car
- Pay the property transfer tax.
- Go to the Traffic Headquarters, pay the fees and provide documentation. You can go to the Traffic Headquarters of your address, to the address of the seller or to the province where the car was registered.
If you sell your vehicle
You should take into account the following points, but above all, make sure that the buyer has registered the vehicle in his name at the Traffic Headquarters.
- Keep a copy of the sales contract, the invoice and the buyer's ID. It is essential to include the exact time you deliver the vehicle.
- Tell the buyer that he/she has 15 days to send you a copy of the change of ownership in traffic. This is very important, as fines for speed cameras and for not having passed the MOT will continue to arrive as long as the change of ownership has not been made in the Vehicle Register of the Directorate General of Traffic. If the buyer has not sent you this document within 15 days, go to the Traffic Headquarters and inform them that you have sold the vehicle (notification of sale procedure).
On the website of the General Directorate of Traffic www.dgt.es you will be able to consult all the information you need and download the official forms you are asked to fill in to carry out the various administrative procedures for your car.
