What is an accident-friendly report?
The accident-friendly report is a document used in our country since XNUMX with the entry into force of the Direct Compensation Agreement. Thanks to this document, it was possible to expedite the settlement of the payment of material damages produced as a result of an accident between two vehicles to the insured.
This accident-friendly declaration document consists of two self-tracing sheets that allows, once completed, each of the parties involved in the traffic accident to keep one of the sheets.
To further speed up the procedures in the event of an accident, there is an official and approved model in almost all the Member States of the European Union - although in each country it is drafted in its own official language - which makes it possible to speed up the procedures regardless of the European Union country in which the accident took place.
How to fill in an accident report
Despite being tremendously useful, many drivers do not know how to fill in an accident report after having an accident or collision. Below, we tell you what information you will have to write down and where you will have to write it down.
Vehicle data
In the columns named "vehicle A" and "vehicle B", the details of each of the vehicles involved in the accident must be filled in. Specifically, the following data should be noted:
- Name, nationality, address and telephone number of the insured.
- Model, brand and registration number of the vehicle.
- Place of registration of the vehicle.
- Name of the insured's insurance company, as well as its policy number.
- Green Card number when foreign drivers have intervened in the accident.
- Name, address and telephone number of the insurance agency or brokerage with which the car insurance has been contracted.
- Indicate if the Insurance is all risk or to third parties, that is, whether it covers own damages or not.
- Name, nationality, address, contact telephone number and driver's license number.
- Indicate the exact spot on the car where the collision between the vehicles occurred.
- Visible damage to the vehicle.
- Circumstances of the accident, such as the reason for the collision.
- A sketch or drawing explaining how the accident occurred and detailing the place where the accident took place.
- Additional data or relevant observations that have no place in the previous sections.
- Driver's signature.
Declaration
In the upper part of the accident-friendly report there are five common fields for those involved in the accident in which the following data must be noted:
- Date and time when the accident occurred.
- Place where the accident occurred.
- Damage that has not occurred to the colliding vehicles.
- Identification of witnesses who have witnessed the accident.
Record
On the back side of the accident-friendly report, each of those involved in the accident may finish completing the report including the following information:
- Insured's details.
- Supplementary sketch on how the accident occurred if necessary.
- Note whether the authorities, such as the police or fire departments, have had to intervene.
- Details of the insured vehicle.
- Details of the driver of the insured vehicle.
- Expertise.
- Other vehicles that would have intervened in the accident. For example, in case of multiple collision.
- Damage caused to things or animals resulting from the accident.
- Information on the injured.
After completing the accident report: what should we do?
Once the accident report has been completed, each of the drivers involved in the accident must keep a copy. Both copies are identical and drivers will not be able to write down any other circumstance on their copy, since these will not be taken into account and will only serve to delay the resolution of the accident.
When the accident report has been completed, you have a period of 7 days to report the accident to the insurance company, so it is not necessary to sign the report immediately after having suffered an accident.
What to do if we don't have a valid accident report copy
In the event that none of the drivers involved in the accident has an approved form of accident report for the Member States of the European Union, there are two different ways to proceed:
- Once it is clear to both drivers who was responsible for the accident, they only need to exchange their insurance policy number, as well as the insurer's details and the drivers' personal details. In addition, it is advisable to take a photo of the accident to prove how it happened.
- If the drivers do not agree on who is responsible for the accident or how it has occurred, it is advisable to notify the Local Police or the Civil Guard so that they take note of the events and try to clarify them through a report.
The fundamental thing is, without a doubt, having a good Car insurance that covers damages not only to third parties, but also their own.
